A Healthy Home

Most people spend 65% of their time at home. Having a healthy home promotes well-being and pride for you and your family. Maintaining a healthy home will also increase the value and lifespan of your home, and your household products.
Dust in your home can build up, triggering irritation, asthma and a whole range of nasty reactions. It can also build up and cause damage to your electrical products, leading to you having to replace these items sooner than you would necessarily need to.
Dust comes from a few sources:
- Particles from the outdoors come in via shoes and clothing.
- Particles drawn in through heating and ventilation systems.
- Air leakage through cracks in doors and windows.
- Dust mites creating dust from within the home itself.
Two-thirds of dust in homes is tracked in from outdoors. Having a system in place to filter out and remove this irritant is necessary for maintaining your healthy home. Make sure that your air conditioning and ventilation system is installed properly, with healthy air circulation, and your filters are of a high quality and cleaned regularly.
A healthy home is a reasonably dry home. A dry home minimizes the growth of moulds. Moisture and moulds can also trigger asthma attacks and allergic reactions. Water and moisture attracts pests like cockroaches, bugs, mice and also helps dust mites to thrive, none of which you want in your home. Having the right air-conditioning system will reduce the humidity in your home to about 55%, this helps to prevent the growth of mould, and makes your home unattractive to pests.
Properly ventilated homes have systems to remove contaminants and allergens that can cause respiratory issues such as dust and by-products from heating and cooking. These include exhaust fans and air-conditioning units with the appropriate filtration systems.
Having a comfortable, healthy home will also help prevent you from making common mistakes which can unknowingly cause yourself and your family harm. Cold temperatures may cause a person to use stoves and ovens for extra heating, leading to serious dangers from exposure to carbon monoxide. Humidifiers may be installed to relieve an excessively dry environment, creating extra moisture that can contribute to the growth of moulds, dust mites and the presence of other pests in your home.
A healthy home means a healthier family. Make sure your air conditioner is doing its best to keep your home as healthy as possible.
